How to Do Head Massage at Home By Yourself
An ancient proverb states: “a healthy mind is medicine; no better prescription exists.” The head, neck, and shoulders are an important energy center within your body. If you are stressed or angry, tension can accumulate. Regular head massage can work to relieve the build-up of tension. It is a wonderfully relaxing treatment and can enhance the health of the scalp and promote hair growth.

However if going to spa centers or asking any professional to do your head massage is not possible because of any reason, it doesn't mean that you cannot this amazing ritual by yourself. You need some time alone and a little bit of motivation to start. Once you start the process, you will love it and feel relaxed and happy while doing it.

What Do You Need?

For an relaxing massage, you need conditioning hair oil, such as argan, coconut oil or which is suitable to your hairs. you can choose which ever you like or is available at home.

Change into a dressing gown or wrap a towel around you, remove jewellery, and sit comfortably with your feet flat on the floor, shoulders back, and eyes closed. Breathe deeply in and out through the nose 3 times.

8 Step Head Massage

1. Pour oil into the palms and rub your hands together to warm the oil. Smooth the oil into the hair, starting at the top and working down the sides, then moving towards the front and the back.

2. Once you have covered the whole head with oil, distributing it evenly, gently massage the whole of the head with thumbs and fingers in a simple shampooing motion.

3. Grasp fistfuls of hair at the roots and gently tug from side to side, keeping the knuckles close to the scalp. This invigorates the hair roots.

4. Squeeze your temples with the heel of the hands or the fingertips and make slow, circular movements. Close your eyes and breathe deeply

5. Massage the back of the neck by squeezing and rolling the muscles. Start at the top of the neck and work your way down. Repeat this movement 3 times.

6. Find the *occipital area at the back of the head. Place the left thumb under the left *occipital area and the right thumb under the right *occipital area. Rub to release the muscles.

7. Place your right hand on your left shoulder, near the base of the neck, and squeeze. Work your way outwards along the shoulder and down the arm to the elbow. Repeat on the other side.

8. Rub your fingertips lightly all over the head and face. Relax for 5 minutes, before drinking a glass of water to hydrate.

Wrap your hair in a warm towel and indulge in a spa facial if you feel like it. The oil will continue to give your hair an intense, nourishing treatment. However you can also go a head and shampoo your hairs as usual.

* What is the occipital area?
The occipital bone forms most of the back portion of the skull. It has a large opening where the spinal cord links with the brain. The occipital area is often the site of pain and “tension headaches”. Mobility of the muscles in this area with gentle massage can help to ease headaches and relieve pain.
