The Best Natural Ways to Whiten Your Teeth
1. Change Your Diet
Certain food types are not hygiene for your dental. Eliminating these food types can help to improve your dental hygiene. Beverages that are rich in tannins are not orally hygienic. Examples of such drinks are dark sodas, coffee, wine, and tea. These beverages can stain the tooth, making them appear yellow.
Acidic foods are also responsible for causing yellow teeth. They wear down the enamel. They also cause bacteria to gather in the tooth. People who want a brighter smile should lower their intake of soda, citrus, and coffee. Alternatively, they should maintain consistent brushing and flossing.
Experts recommend waiting about 30 minutes after meals before brushing. Acids are harmful to the enamels as they can weaken them. So, brushing immediately after a meal can be bad for oral health. Also, it is good to consume lots of water. Drinking lots of water helps to improve overall health. Not only that, but it also helps to fight bacteria in the mouth. Proper water intake will help to retain saliva in the mouth. When there’s adequate retention of saliva in the mouth, it keeps the tooth clean. It also fights harmful bacteria.
2. Practice Oil Pulling
Traditional healers mostly use oil pulling. They do so to improve the quality of their teeth. Oil pulling is a process of washing the mouth with oil. This is so as bacteria, dirt, and food particles are removed from the teeth. Oil pulling is not an alternative for brushing and flossing. Most people do brush and floss and practice oil pulling. Studies have shown that washing the mouth with special oils can improve oral health.
However, the American Dental Association has stated that there no scientific studies backing the potency of oil pulling. They do not believe it helps whiten the tooth, reduce cavities, or improve oral health. Nonetheless, since people practice it, it is a great idea to do the same. To practice oil pulling, you rinse your mouth with oil after brushing. After doing so for about a minute, spit it out. Note that there are specific oils suitable for oil pulling: there are as follows:
⦁ Coconut oil
⦁ Sesame oil
⦁ Sunflower oil
3. Make Use of Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is a mild bleach used for teeth whitening. People who have yellow teeth should consider using hydrogen peroxide. You can try mixing hydrogen peroxide with baking soda. This is to get a better result.
Use the mixed solution at least once a day for a week. Note that it isn’t hygienic to do every week. Take regular breaks. Hydrogen peroxide can increase your tooth sensitivity. So, it isn’t best for long time use, especially for people with sensitive teeth.
4. Occasionally Brush with Baking Soda
Did you know that baking soda can help with a brighter smile? Baking soda can be used to remove stains from tooth surfaces. People are often worried about the use of baking powder. They believe it is too harsh for the dental. However, research has taught us that it is safe and effective in eliminating yellow teeth.
Baking soda is also helpful in fighting bacteria in the mouth. This means that it is effective in preventing decay. It also suggests that it can help to reduce the buildup of plaques.
5. Consume Lots of Dental Care Fruits
Some fruits help to improve oral health, such as papayas and pineapples. They have papain and bromelain in them. And these are enzymes known to strengthen teeth quality. A few studies have also backed the effectiveness of fruits containing papain and bromelain. Studies suggest that these fruits are helpful with dental care and should be consumed regularly.
Other than pineapples and papayas, strawberries are also great. Malic acid found in strawberries helps to improve tooth discoloration. For better results, combine strawberries with baking soda. To use this solution, smash a berry and mix it with baking soda. Afterward, take the solution and brush with it. Do not use this mixture too often. Limit to at least twice a week. This is because baking soda is acidic and can cause damages.
Vegetables are also great for improving your dental quality. Consider adding vegetables to your diet. Vegetables help to rub off plaques from the teeth. This helps to keep the teeth looking bright and healthy.
6. Increase Your Intake of Calcium
Most yellow teeth are caused by enamel eroding. This indicates the importance of strengthening the enamel. Anything that supports the enamel would keep the teeth white. Foods that are rich in calcium helps to strengthen the enamel. So, it is best to include milk, cheese, and broccoli in your diet. These types of food are rich in calcium.
7. Remember to Practice Consistent Brushing and Flossing
As earlier stated, the yellow tooth is mostly caused by aging. However, plaque buildup can cause yellow tooth also. Consistent brushing and flossing help to prevent yellow tooth. They help to keep the tooth white by reducing bacterial and plaque buildup. Toothpaste is greasy and rubs off stains from the dental. While flossing helps to keep away bacteria from the mouth but you have to learn the right way to floss your teeth. Also, regularly visiting the dentist will help with your dental. They help to clean them to look white and healthy.
There are lots of natural remedies and with these tips for home oral care you can whiten your teeth more effectively. Most of these remedies rub off stains from the tooth. They also ensure bacterial do not harbor in the mouth. Still, dentists are professionals when it comes to dental care. They offer whitening solutions that are highly effective and convenient. So, consider your dentist's advice when it comes to teeth whitening.
